Currently in Guatemala we are in the rainy season. This means exactly what you may think, there is A LOT of rain! With the chilly rain and new foods our team has gotten a batch of sickness both colds and stomach issues. Tuesday we were powering through, thanks to the strength of the Lord but to be honest we were weary.
The first beautiful moment in this day was when I was washing dishes outside in a rainy thunderstorm. I was thankful the rain was extinguishing the burning trash that was tickling my lungs but honestly I was feeling pretty sick. Despite this I really wanted to finish the dishes so we could get going to the women’s retreat that afternoon. I was praying for strength and joy and the Lord delivered it in the form of a sweet little girl. She came and blew bubbles with the dish soap and made me laugh. She taught me the word for bubbles is burbujas in Spanish and I taught her it in English. Sometimes God sends little rays of sunshine and bubbles to brighten our day.
Sometimes God sends elaborate displays of his love and pours his blessings on us like a downpour of rain. After the dishes were finished, we went to the women’s retreat and were surprised with these showers of blessings. The retreat happened to be a Beauty for Ashes retreat led by an AIM group. When I saw the group, a little white headed woman caught my eye but I thought no it couldn’t be. I went over to say hola and sure enough God had blessed me with my friend Ethel! Ethel and I met at a Beauty for Ashes retreat last November and she is the absolute sweetest and was such a beautiful part of my healing journey! God knew I needed a familiar grandma hug and He blessed me with her sweet presence! The odds of meeting someone I know randomly in Guatemala are so rare and yet God loves to work in the impossible and the unlikely!
God also showed out for some of the other girls! Sydney had been praying for the comfort of banana bread and sure enough these lovely women brought this as a snack! One of the women reminded Grace so much of her mother and was able to give her a much needed “mom hug” and reminded her she was so brave. The women spoiled us with love and treats and hugged us even though we were filthy from a long dusty day working at the school. These women not only showered God’s love on the community but God used them to refill our tanks! God never ceases to amaze me with the beautiful things he orchestrates sometimes just to show us that He loves us and is with us!
